Privacy and cookies

Last updated 2 August 2026. This notice explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and how to get it removed.

Who we are

Appening Now Limited, a software studio based in Essex, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for personal data collected through this website. For anything in this notice, including requests to access or delete your data, contact karo@appeningnow.com.

What we collect

When you use the contact form we collect the name, email address, company, role and message you enter, plus the time of submission and your IP address. The IP address is used only for rate limiting and spam detection.

When you use the chat assistant we collect the name and email you provide before chatting, and the messages you send. Your messages are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate a reply. Do not put confidential information into the chat.

When you browse the site we collect aggregate usage data. See the cookies section below.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

We use enquiry and chat data to reply to you and to decide whether we can help. Our lawful basis is legitimate interest in responding to business enquiries, and performance of a contract once we work together. We do not use your details for marketing without asking first, and we do not sell data to anyone.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of processors to run the site. Each receives only what it needs:

  • Vercel hosts the site and provides cookieless analytics and bot protection.
  • Notion stores enquiries and chat transcripts so we can keep track of them.
  • Telegram delivers a notification to us when an enquiry arrives.
  • Google provides the Gemini API used by the chat assistant, and Google Analytics and Google Ads where you have consented.
  • Zoho provides our email, hosted in the EU.

Cookies

The site works without cookies. Our usage analytics from Vercel are cookieless and cannot identify you, so they run without consent.

Google Analytics and Google Ads do set cookies, and they only load if you press Accept on the cookie banner. Until then they are held in a denied state and set nothing. If you press Decline, the site behaves exactly the same and we simply measure less.

Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage. To change it, clear site data for appeningnow.com in your browser and the banner will appear again.

How long we keep it

Enquiries and chat transcripts are kept while there is a realistic prospect of working together, and reviewed at least annually. Records relating to actual projects are kept for as long as we need them for legal and accounting purposes. Ask us to delete yours at any time and we will.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict it. Email karo@appeningnow.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

International transfers

Some processors are based outside the UK. Where data leaves the UK we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Addendum to the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
